Mahshi Batata (Stuffed Potato Mince)


For the Potatoes

1kg large potatoes








For the Meat Stuffing

440g minced lean beef

320g tomato sauce

140g onions

60g tomato paste

1 tbsp olive oil

½ tsp cinnamon powder

½ tsp sweet pepper powder

salt and white pepper

For the Garnish

1 tbsp chopped parsley

2 tbsp pine seeds








Start by prepping the potatoes

• Boil the potatoes until tender, with the skin on.

• Remove the skin and cut the potatoes crosswise in half. Scoop out the flesh, leaving about half an inch border to the peel.

• Keep the potato base and discard the flesh.

Now move on to the stuffing…

• Chop the onions.

• In a pan, heat the olive oil and sauté the onions until lightly browned. Cook the meat and add tomato paste.

• Add the cinnamon powder and sweet pepper powder. Add ¼ the amount of the tomato sauce and simmer. Season with salt and pepper.

 Then bring it all together!

• Preheat the oven at 180°C.

• Arrange the potato base on a baking tray. Stuff the base with the meat mixture.

• Spread the remaining tomato sauce on top of the meat stuffing as well as the base.

• Bake for 20 minutes.

Serve warm and garnish with pine seeds and parsley.
